FAQ
What is Nony Flights NZ?
Nony Flights NZ is a YouTube channel that I started in 2018. The channel has grown hugely since 2024 with the launch of the 'Live Tour'. The channel is now dedicated to live plane spotting and flight reviews.
Who is the host?
Your host is Harry, an 18-year-old born and living in the Tauranga area. I'm interested in everything with an engine but a lean towards things that fly. I got into aviation in 2014 when I first flew on an aircraft, a QANTAS 737-800 from Auckland to Brisbane. I started plane spotting in early 2018 and began posting my content filmed on my phone in August 2018 after creating the channel.
How can I support the channel?
Nony Flights NZ relies on viewer support to grow the channel. There are many ways to financially support the channel. You can support directly on YouTube using Superchat, Superstickers, Superthanks, and memberships. YouTube takes a 30% cut of donations. Other low-fee ways include PayPal and Buy Me A Coffee.
The only free way to donate is via the donate page on this website where I receive 100% of the donation.
Can I become a moderator on YouTube?
Thank you for your interest in becoming a mod. I have a wonderful team at the moment and will look to expand it in the future. For a chance at becoming a mod in the future, I invite you to actively participate in the chat and follow our chat guidelines.
Where is your home airport?
While many think that my home airport is Auckland, it's actually Tauranga Airport. Tauranga Airport is a small airport that punches above its weight with many warbirds and even fighter jets based there. It's the 7th busiest airport in New Zealand but 2nd busiest when it comes to General Aviation traffic. The airport is a 2.5 hour drive or 30-minute flight from Auckland Airport.
What are the chat guidelines?
We have three main guidelines which are:
- Questions are welcome, ask as many as you would like!
- No self-promotion or spam
- Be respectful 😊
What camera do you use?
I use the Nikon P1000 for streaming, it has a 24-3000mm F/2.8-8.0 lens which is perfect for spotting during the day. In the past I used the Canon Powershot SX740, I still have it and it's good for some behind-the-scenes images and quite a few of my flight reviews are filmed with it.
Where do you stream?
I am mainly streaming at Auckland Airport due to its large variety and frequency of airliner traffic. I have however streamed at a variety of other airports throughout my plane spotting live tours such as Wellington, Christchurch, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. There is also the occasional Tauranga and Hamilton stream thrown in the mix.
Do you take requests for specific streaming locations or flights to review?
Of course! Flick me an email by clicking here or let me know in the live chat. I love hearing what content my viewers want and I will do my best to facilitate it.
Where did the name Nony Flights NZ come from?
A very frequently asked question! I started the channel under 'Anonymous Aviation New Zealand' and when I eventually became no longer anonymous, I needed a name change. At the time, my plane spotting mates all called me Nony, and so the name stuck!
Can I use your footage for my own projects?
Personal projects are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. To request permission to use any of my footage, please contact me by clicking here.
